Comprehensive Eye Exams

We offer uncompromised and detailed eye examinations which consists of:

  • Detailed history of past and present eye health and medical issues including present vision requirements
  • Assessment of vision, refractive and binocular vision systems including glasses prescription
  • Assessment of neurological, ocular motility, colour and stereoscopic vision as well as peripheral vision systems
  • Assessment of anterior ocular health including eye pressures for glaucoma and assessing posterior ocular health with dilated fundus examinations
  • Analyzing and educating the patient’s condition, treatment options, management and our professional recommendations (further assessment may be required in some situations)
  • With the use of latest equipment and a detailed eye examination, we can detect, treat and manage many eye conditions like glaucoma, cataract and retinal detachment which most of the time do not display any symptoms in the early stages of disease

A comprehensive eye exam can also help in the detection of many systemic conditions such as diabetes, high blood pressure, cholesterol and other auto-immune diseases, which can affect the ocular health and vision.
Yearly comprehensive eye exams are recommended for children and seniors while adults should have an eye exam done at least every two years.

Yearly comrehensive eye exams are covered through OHIP for Children aged 19 and under, Senior 65 and over.
Patients who are Diabetic, or have Glaucoma, Retinal detachment, Cataract may also be covered under OHIP.

Pediatric Eye Exams

Children need to have eye exams annually in a friendly environment with a special consideration, tools and techniques.

We can examine a child’s eyes as early as 6 months. Screening done in schools however do not replace a comprehensive eye examination. Every child should have an exam done at least at the age of 3 years and annually thereafter to avoid any life long vision threatening eye conditions, especially lazy eye.

It has been determined that 80% of learning is visual and approximately 20% of school aged children have been found to have some vision problems that can affect their development and learning. Vision therefore is critical for academic success.

Anyone under the age of 20 is covered by OHIP for a comprehensive eye examination on an annual basis.

Proudly we are affiliated with the Eye See Eye Learn program, a joint venture with our industry partners, government, and the Ontario Association of Optometrists whereby complimentary eye glasses are provided for any JK student who is found to be in need of a visual correction. We believe that our young students should start their academic careers with the best tools available to ensure educational success.

Laser Vision Corrections

We can discuss and determine in detail if you are a good candidate and provide an unbiased opinion on the treatment options for:

  • Laser vision corrections such as LASIK vs. PRK or other available Refractive options like Implantable Lenses
  • Laser procedures for Cataract, Glaucoma and Retinal diseases

Our doctors have done extensive training in pre and post operative management of laser vision corrective surgeries and are associated with leading laser vision centres in order to provide you with the best possible vision.

Contact Lenses

Contact lens technology has changed quite extensively over the past years and continues to change to offer more comfortable and better breathing materials with more options available to the disposable lens wearer than ever before.
People who once could not wear contact lenses in the past can now enjoy contact lenses and some freedom from being dependent on eye glasses alone.

We assess and provide proper fittings for contact lenses and do follow up assessments to monitor corneal and ocular health for any damages. All of our patients are encouraged to try a trial pair before they order them. We also provide specialty contact lenses for children’s special needs and bifocal users.

Visual Field Testing

Visual field tests map a patient’s entire central as well as peripheral scope of vision for each eye, or both eyes together. It is especially helpful in detecting damages due to glaucoma or any damage due to ocular diseases affecting the optic nerve and visual pathways through the brain. It is also useful in detecting damages due to central or peripheral retinal diseases, eye lid conditions and certain brain tumors.

Early detection is the key in treating and managing most of these conditions.

Retinal Imaging Technology

Retinal imaging can help in the early detection of many retinal diseases and is routinely done to detect any diabetic retinopathy, hypertensive retinopathy and macular degeneration that occurs with age.

Detection of early changes in these diseases can allow us to treat and manage these common sight threatening conditions in a timely manner. Most importantly it also provides us with an objective way to monitor for any progression when comparing subtle changes or irregularities that are otherwise difficult to determine without the use of enhanced technology.

We are also authorized to carry Nano Kids, Spine Eyewear, sports wear goggles and safety glasses for industrial needs.

Dry Eyes

Clear vision is dependent on good quality tear production from properly functioning lacrimal and oil glands found in the lids. It is essential to lubricate the front surface of the eyes with every blink to keep the cornea clear.

Dry Eye Syndrome (DES) is a common issue in both adults and children due to excessive use of screens, allergies and improper use of contact lenses. It is also simply a factor of advancing age as well.
Treatments can vary from ocular lubricants, special procedures to increase the tear volume to prescription drugs and ointments to help protect the ocular surface from dryness.
